i didn't want to enter any boarding school at first, i wonder that time why people submitting theirselves into a place where there is no good foods, Astro, internet, and life.
it's not like one can't study responsibly in any regular school.
but i was forced, and later, i love it. seems like there were so much life in boarding school =D
my sister was there, my brother. even my eldest sister was once attend a boarding school.
i have this weird perceptions upon them, because in my judgement, they weren't normal. they can't even speak the proper and official language of MTV. ( u know that time where being a teenager was all about MTV? hehe)
my minds were boggling and filled with ridiculous imagination and thoughts about boarding school, especially about the foods served, because my sister and brother kept asking for KFC, Maggi noodles, Pringles, Roller Coaster, Wafret etc every time my parents visit them at that place. did the dining hall didn't served them foods? i myself seldom ate those things, uols.
i often heard this term nasi kawah was what being served at boarding school.
having a mind as small as a nut, i kept imagining a big black rusty kuali (oh how i didn't know the different between kuali and kawah back then), wood burned at the bottom of it, and some sort of old women and men watch over it, waiting for the rice to be cooked.
i think that time i was influence by the scenery of people kacau dodol.
i was totally wrong.
at that boarding school, they have this very large scale of rice cooker, and i think it was more modern that what we had at home. hehe.
somehow, later becoming a student there myself, found out that the foods weren't too bad. and we students have had our own jargons regarding foods served.
1. Span minyak -oily sponge.
-this is supposedly some kind of French-toast, only in Malaysia. breads coated in egg and fried, the original recipe i supposed. somehow, i didn't know how they makes it, it didn't taste good at all. squeeze the bread, and what u'd get is a half-cup of oil, its like a sponge absorbing too much oil.
2. ikan lemas - drowning fish.
-boiled fish in a soup of salt, i guess.
3. ikan jaket - jacket fish.
- flour-coated fried fish looks like a fish wearing a life-saving jacket, to prevent it from drowning kot.
4. air berwarna - coloured water?
-available in red, which was universal colour for air sirap, only what served to us was tasteless. seperti air masak yang ditambah pewarna merah sahaja.
5. biskut mayat - corpse biscuit?
-wrapped biscuit lah.
6. Chicken Red in Colour
-ayam masak merah, yg diglamerkan namanya, seswai penekanan kerajaan terhadap PPSMI. hahah.
pe lagi ekk?
oh, teringat cerita pasal maggi plak.
korang tau kan asrama tuh, haram bawak benda alah yg boleh memasak, jd biasanya budak2 'mengembangkan' maggi dgn dicelup dlm ayer panas berkat mesin yg dikenali sbg 'water cooler', tp kan mesin tu ada ayer panas? water dispenser sbnrnya.
satu mlm tu, aku rasa disoriented kot.
jadi, semua dah ready, maggi dalam container (container sapa tak tau, hahah), perencah dah ditabur indah dan sekata di atas mi tadi, dan tinggal air panas yg mengalir keluar dr hujung muncung salur ayer tadi. aku pun dgn percaya diri nya menekan tombol ayer tadi.
eh, dah isi penuh dgn ayer, tapi, eh, kenapa tak berasap ayer ini?
aku pun celup la jarii.
siot. ayer sejuk rupanya, salah tombol dan muncung aku. ada org yang sgt bijak gi tukar kaler merah (ayer panas) dgn kaler biru (ayer sejuk).
free2 berbuang maggi tu.
i can't think recall & much, so sampai sini sahaja. daa.
